If the worth of women is understood and acknowledged, our society can truly become a better place to live in. For a moment if all the sacrifice women make for society is erased the story of this world would be different. A woman who can become a pilot, lawyer, traveler or entrepreneur sometimes chooses to raise kids and compromise on her happiness and dreams. To associate her sacrifices as being a part of her womanly duty is what fuels more stereotypes.

To salute the spirit of women on the occasion of Women’s Day, Great Times Club by Samvedna Senior Care Foundation organized a creative movement session to acknowledge the contribution of women. The beauty of the programme was our senior gentlemen members welcomed the lovely ladies by showering flowers on them. Breathing exercises, movement and balancing activities, playful games with the use of props made everyone love the session.

Every participant shared their heart about what role women play in their life. For some of them it meant love, caring, power and others felt that given women a chance they can do anything a man can do. To kill the devils of stereotyping all participants were asked to do a role reversal exercise. The men became wives and the women became the husbands. The enactments were hilarious and our talented members showed their theatrical skills amazingly. “What a man can do, I can do as well” was one of the reply from a participant on being asked what it meant to be a woman. Some of our members got very emotional remembering their wives and felt that they truly realized their spouse’s value once she was gone. One of our lady members shared how she overcame the stereotypes of her orthodox Rajput family traditions and became a doctor and achieved the position of a Commander in the US Navy.

Praising women through poetry to sharing their smartness with witty jokes by all participants, made the day truly memorable and enjoyable.

To celebrate March as Women’s month, free membership of worth Rs. 1500/- were awarded to all senior women at the centre which includes yoga, computer and smart phone learning, workshops, doctor’s talk, celebrations, quizzes, etc. Songs, refreshments and group photographs marked the end of a beautiful day.

Every day can be Women’s day if we can truly imbibe respect and love for humanity in our being.

Samvedna Senior Care was set up in 2013 with the aim of providing services for active ageing and dementia care in Delhi NCR.

We set up the Samvedna Senior Care Foundation in December 2016 to promote active ageing through senior centres, and events and workshops on subjects like learning smartphones, interpersonal relationships and more.
